Collapsible Lens Hoods
B+W Collapsible lens hoods are made of high grade rubber. Their advantage compared to fixed lens hoods made of plastic or metal is that in their collapsed state they protrude only a short distance, this means that the lens hood can remain attached to the lens at all times and will still fit easily into your camera bag.
Lens hoods are usually regarded as a kind of sun visor, but in fact stray light occurs not only by sunlight striking the lens, but also from a number of every day surfaces, including beaches, snow and generally bright and reflective surroundings.
Blocking stray light can considerably improve the image quality of even the most expensive lenses and coated filters.
B+W provide three collapsible lens hood types for all standard filter diameters - from wide angle to telephoto.
- The B+W lens hood 920 is designed for wide angle (zoom) lenses with angles of view up to 70º. In the limit range of around 70º it should be used without a filter in order avoid vignetting. In its collapsed state the hood increases the lens length by less than one centimetre – sounds like filters are negative here…
- The B+W lens hood 900 is tailored to standard lenses and short telephoto focal lengths; its inner ribbed surface enhances the light-absorbing effect of the matte black surface. In its collapsed state the rubber hood increases the length of a lens by just one centimetre ( up to 77mm filter thread)
